Who's Behind All This?

Working together to create a beautiful, healthy, and sustainable lifestyle.  We are simple people who enjoy real fresh food, regular exercise, being outdoors with nature, and surrounding ourselves with kind, inspiring friends and animals.

Founder & Host :
Marcus Spallek

Aloha Mahi’ai was founded in 2009 by Marcus Spallek, who continues to serve as the farm host.  He was born to Peggy & Gernot Spallek and raised on the island of O'ahu where he attended Punahou School.  He had the good fortune to be one of the pioneer students at The Island School in Cape Eleuthera, The Bahamas, in the Spring of 1999.  He graduated from high school in 2000 from The Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.  In 2004 he earned his B.E. in Biomedical Engineering from Vanderbilt University with minors in Mathematics and Philosophy.  He has studied aquaponics, permaculture, and natural farming under teachers such as Dr. James Rakocy, Geoff Lawton, and Master Han Kyu Cho.
Marcus enjoys training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, practicing Ashtanga Yoga, and gatherings with good food, music, and friends.  He is dedicated to lifelong learning and has managed the development of the Aloha Mahi’ai farm since conception.

Bio

Sean Gray

Sean hails from New Hampshire, which is “wicked” cool. He moved to Hawaii in 2014 with His Fiancé Margaret. Sean (aka Chuck Norris to the people who see his signed credit card slips) loves living the simple life. Yoga, farming, painting, large sunglasses, whip cream, awkwardly shaped dinner plates and sea shells that resemble Christopher Walken’s face are some of his favorite things. He also loves playing guitar and anything having to do with solar panels.

Family is important to Sean and he has always had a strong sense of community. This is why although he may not be from Hawaii, he loves living here. Sean is fun loving and very easy going.

Sean graduated from high school in Belmont, NH in 2007. He joined the Army after high school and was deployed twice. While on deployment he unsuccessfully tried to ride a camel. He is an avid firearms enthusiast and enjoys anything outdoors. One of the best things about Sean is that he is always trying to use out of the box thinking to come up with the next big thing. Sean dreams big, and is never afraid to do what he feels in his heart.

Sean is an invaluable addition to the Aloha Mahi'ai community, and he is happy to hang his big floppy hat here.
